FotoPrompt Friday - wk 1

Sugar in my Grits

When I visited the Sugar in My Grits blog today, I saw what I took on as a new writing challenge for me. She has started doing a FotoPrompt Friday. I have decided that this summer I am going to try to things to make me a better writer and make me stretch out of my comfort zone (since that is a way to grow and change). As a part of that Summer plan, I am going to try to participate in FotoPromptFriday at least a little ...

Thanks Jessica at Sugar in My Grits for the inspiration post and image!

My daughter will dance in her dance recital tomorrow morning. This will be her third year. She has really enjoyed dance classes ... until this year.

Over the last couple of months, M has not been wanting to go to dance class on Monday evenings. Since she did not start complaining about going until after recital costumes has been ordered and purchased, I made a deal with her that she would need to take dance until it was recital time and then she could take a break.

M remembers EVERYTHING, so she keeps reminding me this week of what our deal was!

I am not really sure why she is not enjoying dance this year. I have some ideas ... In the past, they offered a combination ballet and tap class. M loves to put on both of those types of shoes and dance away. The class she was in this year added a component of tumbling after ballet and tap. From what I can tell, I don't think she likes flipping and doing cartwheels/roundoffs too much.

She says that she does, but I am not so sure ...

I wonder if she feels like she is drowning in her dance classes this year ...

I don't want to be that Mom who makes my child do every activity ... but I am a firm believer in following through on what you have committed to do.

She played soccer a year or two ago ... She said that she did not like that "since they did not share" so we didn't make her play that again even though we did finish out the year ...

In order to learn, we have to be willing to take chances and try new things!

At the end of this month, M will begin playing basketball ...

I wonder what the future will hold ...

I want her to do what she says she is going to do ...

But I don't want her to be miserable ...

I want to give her chances to explore various areas ...

With exploring, you find things that you like and things that you don't like ...

I just don't want her to feel trapped ...

I love the idea of a photo prompt. That's what I sometimes try to do and why a lot of my posts are random...but at least it gets me writing! I hope your daughter figures things out. It's hard to know when to push our kids, and when to let them decide for themselves. Good luck! Thanks for visiting my blog today!

This is so tough. I hope that with the out that you gave her (that she can stop after the recital) that she doesn't feel trapped. It's wonderful that you let her try to many different things. She'll find what she is meant to do.

Love where you took that photo prompt.
