Creative Thinking Challenge #19

In the “Grow Creativity!” article, Candace Hackett Shively shares four aspects of creativity: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. This article had me hooked from the beginning:

The world needs creative thinkers, scientists, engineers, leaders, and contributing workers. yet research repeatedly shows creativity is schooled out of us.

The Creative Thinking Challenge prompts focus on areas in all of these aspects and use ideas inspired by many different sources.

I would love for you to participate …

  • even if you don’t think you are very creative
  • the point of these prompts is to get the creative juices flowing
  • even if that only means letting small ideas begin to trickle out

I find that I get lots of new ideas from looking at the things others have done … and I bet we all interpret the prompts in unique ways.

The best part is that you get to choose how you want to respond to this prompt. And there is no deadline. The next prompt will post on the 1st of the month.

(I post past prompts on the Creative Thinking tab at the top of my blog)

Creative Thinking Challenge Prompt: An Award for YOU!!!!

As a person who has trouble facing the day without caffeine, I was immediately drawn to a book I found recently when I saw the title:

Caffeine for the Creative Mind:

250 Exercises to Wake Up Your Brain

Here is one of those exercises ….

The Envelope, Please

Award season for the entertainment industry get crazy, with the top players carrying home serious hardware. Gold statues, trophies, and crystal plaques are handed to the best of the best. Suffice to say, we’ll probably never walk home with an Oscar, but that is not our world.

What would we walk home with?

Your challenge today is to create the award for you place of employment or household. What would it be called? What symbol would it represent? What would the categories be that someone might be eligible for?

Create your own mantelpiece treasure and give one to yourself.

In the category of “Best-Creative-Exercise-Doer-Person” or something.
