Creative Thinking Prompt #26

In the “Grow Creativity!” article, Candace Hackett Shively shares four aspects of creativity: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. This article had me hooked from the beginning:

The world needs creative thinkers, scientists, engineers, leaders, and contributing workers. yet research repeatedly shows creativity is schooled out of us. 

The Creative Thinking Challenge prompts focus on areas in all of these aspects and use ideas inspired by many different sources.

I would love for you to participate …

  • even if you don’t think you are very creative
  • the point of these prompts is to get the creative juices flowing 
  • even if that only means letting small ideas begin to trickle out

I find that I get lots of new ideas from looking at the things others have done … and I bet we all interpret the prompts in unique ways.

The best part is that you get to choose how you want to respond to this prompt. And there is no deadline. Prompts are posted on the 1st and 15th of each month!

Creative Thinking Prompt: A Smelly Photograph?!?!?!??

If I asked you to draw, take a picture of, or even write about something RED, you could do that …

Did you just think of a red object?

But what if you were asked to draw, take a picture of, or write about something not as concrete ….

Could you do it?

What would you do?

That is the challenge this time!

You can interpret this in any way you want ...

Go as far as you want …

Or stick close …

I got this idea from a page in Caffeine for the Creative Mind  called How Do You Photography Smelly …

 

If someone told you to grab a digital camera and shoot a picture of a pencil, you’d know exactly what to do, wouldn’t you? You’d find a pencil and photograph it.  Pretty straightforward.

But what if someone told you to take a picture of “bored.”

Now what do you shoot?

No, not yourself. 

You would have to first give “bored” a physical feature, then find something that represented that feature.

Your task is to do just that, but with a twist.

Choose one of the words below and take sixteen digital photographs that characterize that word:

  • flight
  • think
  • agressive
  • joy
  • successful
  • tedious
  • loud

Think of the personificaion of the word as well as the abstract concept of the meaning.

 

Hmmm …. I wonder which one I will choose from that list …

Make a List and Then Make It Better

My November Bucket List ….

  • Resist decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving (watched my first Christmas movie of the year this past weekend)
  • Develop some type of Graitude Journal or Activity with my daughter (I think this is so important for both of us)
  • Wear a different piece of jewelry each day (I have more than enough)
  • Listen to and record at least 2 more stories from my 82 year old Grandfather (such special memories that I don’t want to miss)
  • See at least four of my cousins (we live in 3 different states)
  • Discover hidden treasures in the Craft room (that means it needs to be cleaned)
  • Create something with the work JOY on it (that is my middle name)

I am not really sure what it is about this time of year that makes more reflective and appreciative of the things around me. 

I started this list with just a simple brainstorm of ideas. Then I went back and changed the verbs to make them more descriptive. I then went back and added specific adjectives to some of them. That encouraged more clarity in more thinking.  I also began formulating a plan as I continued to look at each bullet and edit it …. proofreading and editing is not a favorite thing of mine … My plan required me to include reasons why each of those events was included in my November Bucket List.

I wonder how making a simple list and then working a step at a time to make it better could be used in the classroom and/or with our children ….

What are things you hope to accomplish this month?
