The Power of Sharing!

I admit that I am a BIG fan of LiveBinders …

Not only for organizing information …

But for sharing too …

And seeing what others have pulled together as well!

Just as I love to vist old libraries and wonder around to see what I might find, I never know what I will discover when I spend time in the LiveBinders gallery

As I was wondering through the other day not really looking for anyting in particular, I came across this binder full of things that sent my thoughts off in so many wonderful directions …

Explore the possibilities …

What is something you found really interesting?

I love the video tab!

But then all the tabs and subtabs are great …

I think places like the LiveBinders gallery where we can share and learn from others is a great example of many of the ways our learning is connected …

And how much powerful our knowledge is when it is shared …

There is more than what you see ....

Sometimes …

It is not what you see but won’t you don’t see that triggers memories …

You may see a historic church building  …

You may see the remanants of large old trees …

You may see a young girl wearing green …

But what you don’t see is the memories evoked when I look at this image …

I see a somewhat scary time in my life when my dad changed jobs requiring us to move just before I started high school ….

And that turned out to be a wonderful step!

I see a building whose insides were once falling in even if the outside structure remained strong ….

I think many of us put up that same facade at times of being strong on the outside while possibly falling apart inside …

I see a tree that had a yellow ribbon on it when I came home from the hospital after my car accident when I was 16 …

I see a church family that has been there for my family in times of need like when my dad had to have emergency heart surgery …

I see the doorways filled with joy and love where my fiance and I took graduation pictures in our caps and gowns the month before we got married …

I see a sanctuary with an aisle my little girl ran down to see her grandfather on Sunday Mornings …

I see the answers to many prayers …

I see the backdrop for many pictures over the years …

I see strength, support, and love when I look at this picture …

Many times there is much to an image than just what you may first see ….

I think that is true for people too …

What do Exercise, Noodle, and Summer have in common?

Yesterday was my daughter’s last day as a first grade student …

I have seen so many changes in her abilities and confidence level this year …

She told me that she is excited to go to second grade but she will miss her teacher from this year …

She loves seeing her teacher from the year before too!

There was a time this year when she got frustrated with reading and began just guessing words that began with the same first letter as the word …

She has a pretty large vocabulary, so she produced some interesting words …

Her teacher also recognized this and helped my little one develop strategies and build confidence …

The feelings of success led to even more success …

Now instead of asking for us to read her stories at night, she asks to read them to us!

You know that makes this mom/educator SMILE!

I have also noticed over the years that my daughter pays attention to everything …

What we say, do, read …

The bookcase in her room is overflowing!

I enjoy buying books and school bookfairs are a weakness of mine …

For her birthday in May, my daughter got several notebooks and journals …

She writes, writes, and writes …

And she is focused on getting the ideas out rather than making sure everything is spelled perfectly, so I get to see lots of inventive spelling …

But that shows that she is thinking about the words and really paying attention to the sounds she hears …

She is also a good little artist …

I know I am biased, but it is true!

So I want to find some ways for my daughter to keep these skills and her confidence up over the summer …

I found this last week: Nine Ways to Exercise Your Noodle This Summer

Love the ideas on that great infographic that I found on Kids Discover, where you can find free resources as well as things for parents, teachers, and kids.

Just reading their mission makes me smile! (And it reminds me of Wonderopolis in many ways)

Our mission is to expose kids to all the wonders in the world—science, space, nature, history and culture—in one easy-to-understand, beautiful publication.  Our goal is to inspire kids, feed their natural curiosity, and instill a love of reading and learning in an environment filled with fun. We want to give them an all-important edge in school and in life.

There are lots of great infographics too!

I can’t wait to see what my daughter creates …

Where do Ideas Come From?

I recently found these wonderful creations by Claire Bulman and wanted to share another one of them with you!

I love quote from Henry Ford in the 5th column at the top of the page …

And the quote from Amelia Earhart at the bottom of the page …

I also like #4: The Idea Will Appear

And the action can be the toughest part!

What part of this jumps out at you?

Carry A Notebook ...

Over the years, I have repeatedly heard that one should carry a notebook or notepad to keep track of ideas …

I once again heard that advice at a confernce I recently attended …

But the difference this time is the I really listened and actually started doing it!

I think we may hear the same advice over and over but it does not have an impact until we really listen and follow through …

So I now carry a notebook …

Or really several notebooks …

Right now I have one in my orange purse …

One in my conference bag …

Two in my retro bag …

And I think there is one in the car

As well as one that seems to move from bag to bag with me but is not always the first one I pick when I need to write something down …

So I went from not carrying a notebook to having multiples …

In some ways, I think that kinda defeats the purpose …

But it could also be seen as an expansion of the idea or as an obsessive characteristic …

Here are a few things I have jotted in one of the notebooks over the last few days …

  • Do you put out fires all day? Or ignite and inspire?
  • Bring the action back
  • Be obsessive, stubborn, extreme (thanks to Eepybird)
  • Letting Curiosity Lead my Creativity
  • They told me what to say but now how to say it
  • What path are you on?
  • You need a notebook
  • The Many Hats
  • 1, 10, 100 (another Eepybird inspiration)
  • Curiosity connect it all
  • Curiosity starts it all
  • What is your story?
  • How did you get started?
  • Be a resource super hero!
  • What number are you going to explore today?
  • A girl who loves to talk
  • Unlocking the next level
  • What are you searching for?
  • What lens are you using?
  • Organized noise-finding mission
  • What does it mean that I was more inspired after a literacy confererence than a tech conference?
  • When can tech fit in to help you?
  • How can tech be used to help your instruction?

I am not really sure what will happen with these ideas …

In the past I have found that if I make a list of blog post ideas, I generally don’t ever write the post that goes with the idea …

I hope that doesn’t happen this time …

And I guess this post can count for one of those ideas …

What would you put in a notebook?

Maybe if I get a cute notebook, I will start carrying the same one all the time …

Or maybe I like having ideas spread out so they don’t bump into each other …

Or maybe the ideas need to bump into each other to get some momentum …
